Congress’s Vote Chori Campaign: Struggle for Election Transparency

Today on August 10, 2025, the Congress party launched a digital public movement named Vote Chori. The aim is to bring transparency to elections and ensure the voter list is accurate and impartial.

Main Point :

* A website named votechori.in and a toll-free number 9650003420 have been released where citizens can file complaints by entering their details, download evidence of theft, and obtain certificates.
* Rahul Gandhi wrote on social media – Vote Chori is an attack on the fundamental idea of ‘one person, one vote.’ A clean voter list is essential for free and fair elections.
* Congress alleges that over 100,000 fake votes were cast in the Mahadevpura constituency, including false addresses, house number 0, multiple names for the same person, and incorrect pictures.
* Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah referred to this as extensive vote theft with official evidence, describing it as a severe blow to democracy.
* A key goal of this campaign is to demand the Election Commission to release a digitally readable voter list, enabling the public and opposition parties to analyze it.

Election Commission vs. Congress: Allegations of Vote Fraud and Political Clashes

The dispute between Congress and the Election Commission over the voter list and election transparency has intensified.

Main Points:

* Rahul Gandhi accused the Election Commission and BJP of massive-scale vote fraud in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, particularly in the Mahadevpura area, claiming it was fully proven. He demanded the release of ten years’ worth of electronic voter lists and CCTV images from polling stations.
* The Election Commission dismissed these allegations as baseless and misleading, stating that Rahul Gandhi should either prove his claims with evidence or apologize to the nation.
* Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot labeled the Commission’s demand as completely impractical and questioned whether the Commission would respond the same way if a journalist made these accusations.
* Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai stated in Prayagraj that even in Varanasi, fake voter names were not removed, CCTV images and digital voter lists were not provided, and this is a betrayal of the constitution and democracy.
